[REVIEW] 2014 Trek Remedy 7 27.5 - The Ultimate Trail Bike

One of Trek's First 650b/27.5 Bikes - For Less Than You Think

The Remedy is the ultimate technical trail bike. Light frame, plush suspension, and precise handling all add up to a stellar ride that goes up, down, and everywhere. The Remedy is not a newcomer to the Trek catalogue, but the 27.5 bike has been redesigned from the ground up because of the new wheel size.

Active Braking Pivot - Incredible suspension works with or without brakes being applied

DRCV - Supple small bump feel, great pedaling efficiency, seemingly bottomless travel for the big stuff

Full Floater - a shock is attached to two moving linkage points for greater response over a wide variety of terrain. It feels like more travel but it's not. It's smarter travel.

"The full floater suspension set-up offers a stable platform for pedaling and the light-weight frame combines to give the Remedy an agility that will see you scampering up the climbs with gusto. The larger wheels make easy work of technical terrain too, offering plenty of grip when you need it and rolling over roots that perhaps you have struggled with in the past." - imbikemag.com

Evo Link - Trek's exclusive system that connects the main frame to the rear triangle with a one-piece rocker link - creating a stiffer frame for greater control with minimal weight

"Flipping the small chip/insert located at the junction of the seat stay and EVO Link gives you a little over half a degree of head angle adjustments and lowers or raises the bottom bracket by 8mm. It's interesting to note that the Remedy's head angle is actually steeper for 2014 than it was in 2013." Flowmountainbike.com

Drivetrain - A mix of Shimano parts come on this bike, which means you can expect a great level of quality and compatibility throughout. Specifically, the shifters and Front derailleur are Shimano Deore; rear derailleur - SLX Shadow Plus. The Crank and cassette are non-brand models, saving you a bit of money.

15QR Thru-Axle - makes steering more precise for more control, and the quick release makes wheel removal easy

Fully Integrated Head Tube - A fully integrated head tube eliminates the need for headset cups, reducing overall weight without sacrificing performance.        ---->

27.5/650b wheels - 650b is the newest MTB wheel size. It falls  between 26" and 29er, but closer to 26". It rides and behaves much like a 26" wheel, with a little more stability and speed.

Tires -
"Trek kicked their product development team into overdrive and managed to develop new Bontrager 27.5" wheels and tires for the Remedy, and both items are really top notch. The Bontrager Rhythm wheelset and XR3 tire combo is great. The tires are massive for a claimed 2.35" width and we rate their consistently grippy and fast-rolling tread pattern as one of our favorites. Other standout Bontrager items are the Evoke saddle and Rhythym grips."

"The Remedy is engaging, fun and lively ride. That's a feeling that we've always found with Trek's Remedy range, and we're glad the addition of slightly bigger wheels haven't dumbed down this playfulness at all ... the bike's abilities as a do-it-all machine are as strong as ever. As a package, this is definitely one of the most appealing trail machines on the market " - flowmountainbike.com

[Review] The 2014 Trek 8.4 DS Can Do It All!

2014 Trek 8.4 DS - Everything You Could Ever Want In A Single Bike

Many first time bike buyers and people getting back into the sport have trouble deciding between all the options available to them. Some may want a bike that is extra comfortable so they can enjoy their rides to the fullest. Others may want to get a bike that is light and efficient so they can ride back and

That's the beauty of a Dual Sport Bike. Not only is the 2014 Trek DS 8.4 light and strong, it's got a load of great features for the versatile cyclist.

First and foremost is:

Comfort

Trek has constructed their 8.4 DS to be one of the most comfortable rides you will get on a multi-purpose bike. They have focused in on the two areas that are most likely to feel the bumps of the road and the fatigue of the ride: your hands, and your rear end.

• Saddle — The highly versatile Evoke saddle is packed with features engineered especially for the demands of off-road riding. It's edges have been made more durable, its nose made wider (for comfort on more technical terrain), and Off-Road-specific Zone Density foam padding gives proper supportive cushioning. It's gender specific Contour Relief Zone offers extra soft tissue relief.

Don't count it out as a road saddle, though! The Evoke's light weight and Posture Specific Design make it a great choice for road riders who prefer a more upright stance.

forth to work. Still others may want to ride around town and occasionally ride a local trail. There are bikes that will fit all of these categories perfectly, and perhaps one of those is something you'd like.
• Handlebars/Grips —On this model, Trek included ergonomic Bontrager Satellite Elite grips. They take your hand shape into account for more comfort and greater control over the bike. The handlebar and stem are oversized to increase durability and control as well.

Front Suspension — Unlike the 8.1 DS which has suspension built directly into the frame, the 2014 8.4 DS comes with a SR Suntour NRX front suspension fork, giving you 63mm of travel and preload adjustable lockout. That means you can switch from full suspension; allowing you to easily pass over bumps or curbs in the road, or no suspension; giving you the greatest amount of power transfer and stiffening your front end for climbs and straightaways.

Quality Parts and Construction

•Frame — Gary Fisher style Aluminum frame using a lighter, sportier version of their Alpha Gold Aluminum frame.

• Hydraulic Disc Brakes — This is one of the best features of a Dual Sport Bike. 160mm rotors provide excellent braking power in all conditions — even rainy or muddy! They operate better than mechanical style brakes, and are easier to adjust. The hydraulic discs on this bike are manufactured by Haynes, their Dyno model.

• Drivetrain — The 2014 8.4 DS sees a few upgrades from the 8.3 DS. It gets a Shimano Alivio Crank and a Shimano Deore Rear Derailleur. The front shifters also get upgraded from Acera to Alivio 9-speed for a total of 27 gears.

• Tires — The bike comes specced with Bontrager LT3 700x38c tires, but the frame has plenty of clearance allowing you to swap for beefier (29x1.8") MTB tire without fenders. You can also mount panniers or racks easily.

All of these features can be said to make this bike the best for a variety of terrain. If you want a light bike that offers a smooth, strong ride. What else would you expect from one of the world's premier Bike manufacturers?

2014 Trek Remedy 8: Lloyd's Pick for Best 2014 MTB

Tough, Tuned, and Trail Ready — Get Prepared For An Awesome Ride

(909) 984-9067

Lloyd from Bumstead's Bicycles is back to show you his newest personal bike, the 2014 Trek Remedy 8. Almost infinitely adjustable, this bike has many options to help the rider tackle technical trails in their own custom way.

The front fork utilizes a three part system labeled Climb, Descend, and Trail. This is a small lever located on the front and rear suspension that allows you to change the plushness on-the-fly.

Check out a recent video/blog post about the 2014 Remedy 9 HERE!

Trek included some other upgrades to the last rendition of the Remedy, including their rear derailleur which has seen improvements over the last few years. We all know too well that the rear derailleur is prone to hitting sticks, shrubs and small rocks, and in Lloyd's opinion, the newer designs offer more durability in those conditions.

Lloyd's favorite upgrade to the Remedy are the SLX brake levers. They now come with a smaller "two-finger" size lever. With hydraulic brakes, it's not as important to have an insane amount of leverage at your fingertips. This smaller design is not the only improvement, though. Following suit with the rest of the bike, the reach of the lever is easily adjustable.

The new 2014 Remedy 8 from Trek is Lloyd's pick for this year. If you're into something a little more aggressive than cross country or light trail — want it to take some big hits but still be able to help you get up the hills— the 2014 Remedy 8 is the bike for you.

If the Remedy 8 isn't for you, we have plenty of other great Trek bikes as well as BMX brands and much more!

2014 Trek Session, Superfly, Fuel EX 26, Elite and Stache

Trek World 2014: What's New? What's staying the same?

(pictures from bikeradar.com and imbikemag.com)

Trek has announced at their Annual Trek World event that they will no longer be "rushing to finish product in time for a deadline, and no more will your bike become obsolete when the calendar ticks by. Instead ... bikes will be released as and when they are ready" (www.imbikemag.com)

Now you can buy a new Trek bike feeling confident that it won't depreciate as greatly over the course of the year. Sure, the bikes will be updated, and there may still be some excitement surrounding a bike launch, but Trek wants to make sure their technologies are at their full potential before releasing them, ensuring that you get the best products at the right time.

What does this mean? For us, it means that the Session, Superfly Full Suspension, Fuel EX 26, Elite and Stache (2013 Stache 7 Review Here) FRAMES will remain unchanged for 2014, but we will be seeing some new color schemes and trickle down componentry.

Trek has embraced all three wheel sizes in their new range to show how well each wheel size works in each category.

Here's a breakdown from IMbikemag.com:

At an entry level hardtail price point the X-Caliber now owns the show, 29-inch wheels and bikes to suit almost any pocket in terms of pricing.

Once you tip over the X-Caliber range, the Superfly range begins. Again a 29-inch hardtail bike that has been tweaked for this year aimed firmly at the XC market with 100mm of front end travel. Alongside the Superfly hardtail is the Superfly Full Suspension (that remains unchanged) The way Trek sees it the extra speed and easy power from a bigger wheelsize makes the 29er the perfect platform for the entry-level market, as well as the XC crowd too.

Moving away from the XC crowd towards the trail end of the market the Fuel EX has made a big upgrade this year in terms of wheel size.

SEE OUR POST ON THE FUEL 29er AND REMEDY 29er HERE

The Fuel EX 29 utilizes a 120mm suspension platform and revamped geometry and frame design to incorporate the bigger wheel size.

Jumping up a gear again, the Remedy range also sees a major update (See a review of the 2013 Remedy). Not just a 29er version but also, you've waited for it, yes a 27.5 version too. This sparks a new deabte, 650b, 27.5, what are we gonna call it?  With this choice in wheelsize, you get to decide which you would prefer according to how and where you ride. The 29er version is a long travel big-wheeled machine if ever there was one sporting 140mm of tuned front and rear suspension. The 27.5 version shares the same suspension platform, but obviously sports the smaller wheel size.

The Slash is back again and is a real all-mountain killer! This year it too gets the bigger wheeled treatment, yet retains the 150mm travel platform from last year. 27.5-inch wheels adorn the new bike which looks great in black and orange paint schemes.

TREK PROJECT ONE has hit the MTB world (look back to our post on it) which means you can spec your Superfly or Fuel EX anyway you want and match it with colors of your choice.

Obviously Trek World wouldn't be complete without mention of Bontrager and there are plenty of new things to get excited about from that camp too. The pumps are all looking good, and a new range of tires has been launched to compliment all the different wheel sizes. The SE4 Tire is a new Super Enduro Tire designed to be as tough as DH rubber yet fast and light enough to make pedalling a breeze.

LEAKED: Photos of Trek's 2014 Trek Superfly 29er

Tyler Benedict of Bikerumor.com caught a super sneak peek at the new Trek Superfly 29er at the Trans-Sylvania Epic which is America's Longest Mountain Bike Stage Race Experience in Central Pennsylvania.

Benedict talks about a few of the frame changes from the current Superfly AL model; saying that the most important change is the, "thru-axle rear end and more heavily shaped hydroformed tubes. It also gets revised cable routing with internal runs for shifting. Graphics and naming scheme are also different"

Check out the rest of the short article here ... and be on the lookout for more information on the 2014 Trek Superfly 29er.
