Guess the Bike: Balanced and Nible Handling, DRCV Platform and 29" Wheels

The 2014 Trek Fuel EX 9.8 29er Performs Brilliantly On The Kind Of Trails You Want To Ride

Bikemag.com “The EX performs brilliantly on everyday singletrack— the kind of trails you want to ride for hours upon hours. Its handling traits are balanced and nimble, thanks in part to its low bottom bracket and ample standover. The efficient DRCV suspension platform and the 27.5-pound weight combine to make the EX 9.8 feel like a no-holds-barred race whippet while on the pedals”

IMG: BikeRadar

Overall, the bike is playful, relishing in medium-sized drops and small doubles and happily attacking bermed corners. As on the 26in Fuel EX, rear-suspension performance is
excellent. The feel may be slightly firm off the top but the spring rate is steadily progressive with lots of pop through the mid-stroke.

The Fuel EX 9.8 uses a carbon front triangle, and the rear triangle is composed of carbon fiber seatstays and aluminum chainstays. The rear suspension is Trek’s Active Braking Pivot with Full Floater technology (the shock’s bottom mount bolts to the chainstay, not the main frame).

The large wheels and neutral geometry, mixed with the bike’s efficient-yet-active suspension allow the bike to scoot up hills like no other. It is also competent and predictable on descents. The RockShox Reverb Stealth dropper post performs flawlessly throughout the ride and adds confidence when charging.

While certain bikes are made for incredibly specific purposes, for most riders, the right tool for the job is a bike that is capable over the course of an entire ride, not just one or two segments of it. The 2014 EX 9.8 has been designed to be the Swiss Army knife of trailbikes. It’s light and efficient enough to be pressed into service for a cross-country race while retaining enough All-mountain DNA to tackle trails that would usually be reserved for much more specific bikes.

Frame: OCLV Mountain Carbon main frame & seatstay, alloy chainstay, Carbon Armor, ABP Convert, Full Floater, E2 tapered head tube, BB95, internal derailleur & dropper post routing, ISCG 05 mount, magnesium EVO link, G2 Geometry, 120mm travel

Front Suspension: Fox Performance Series 32 Float w/CTD (climb-trail-descend) FIT damper, rebound, E2 tapered steerer, 15QR thru axle, custom G2 Geometry w/51mm offset, 120mm travel

Rear Suspension: Fox Performance Series Float w/DRCV, CTD (climb-trail-descend) damper, rebound, tuned by Trek in California, 7.25x1.875"

Benedict talks about a few of the frame changes from the current Superfly AL model; saying that the most important change is the, "thru-axle rear end and more heavily shaped hydroformed tubes. It also gets revised cable routing with internal runs for shifting. Graphics and naming scheme are also different"

2013 Trek Madone 6.2 Reviews from Bumstead's Bicycles in Ontario CA

The 2013 Trek Madone 6.2 Aero Road Bike Improvements Make this Ride Faster and Smoother

James Huang at Bike Radar had this to say about the 2013 Trek Madone:

As expected, the aero claims are eye opening: 25 watts of saved energy at 40km/h compared to the previous Madone – nearly two minutes per hour. We can't verify those figures ourselves without hitting the wind tunnel – and they certainly can't be felt while out on the road – but what we can confirm is that Trek has carried over most of the existing Madone DNA to produce yet another solid ride
Huang goes on to note:
Virtually everything is carbon fiber, too, including the bearing seats for the integrated headset and bottom brackets and the rear dropouts. Once again, the non-driveside chain stay incorporates a pocket for the ultra-tidy Bontrager DuoTrap wireless speed and cadence sensor.

For 2013, Trek has really improved the Madone 6.2. The frame is 600 series OCLV carbon which uses advanced aerospace materials and weight-saving, performance-enhancing process to have the best blend of frame weight and strength. Trek knows that the better a bike fits, the greater the comfort, stability, power, and control of the ride. They use their H2 fit which features a slightly higher head tube to put less strain on your back and neck. Trek has really taken time to make sure that this frame fits women specifically.

Going from frame to components, the bike comes equipped with an all Shimano Ultegra drivetrain. The shifters are Shimano STI 10-speed. STI is Shimano Total Integration, and it allows the rider to easily switch gears from the same location as the brake, should you need to do both in rapid succession. The STI shifters control the front and rear Shimano Ultegra derailleurs, which means you can be confident that each shift is going to be swift and sure.

To ensure your comfort, Trek went with Bontrager for the saddle, handlebars, and grips. Bontrager is the industry leader when it comes to comfort, ensuring the rider that the bike will be extremely comfortable as well as reliable.

To best experience the 2013 Trek Madone 6.2 WSD has to offer, you need to ride it. We offer test rides at Bumstead's Bicycles. We are located at 1038 W. 4th St. in Ontario. You can visit our website  www.bumsteadsbikes.com

2013 Trek Remedy 9.9 Mountain Bike Review - You'll Love the Look

2013 Trek Remedy 9.9 Mountain Bike

Mountain biking has been taken to the next level with Trek's 2013 Remedy 9.9. It's got an ultra light frame, 150mm of travel in it's suspension, and super precise handling. Trek lays the foundation for the greatness of this bike by using its OCLV mountain carbon. They tailor it to the rigors of off-road use. They preserve the lightweight and great carbon feel, while at the same time reinforcing all the right areas. The 9.9 is the ultimate tough, technical trail bike that goes anywhere.

There are tons of features on this bike for the avid trail rider. CTD suspension is available on select Fox shocks and forks, and it is a simple, intuitive, high-performance system that gives you three suspension options: climb, trail, or descend.

There are tons more features for the avid trail rider. DRCV front and rear shocks offer efficient, simple, and plush big hit control. There's also the full floater suspension system that attaches to the bottom of the shock at two moving linkage points in order to better respond to bumps on many types of terrain.

One thing that Trek has implemented for extra ease of the ride is a Reverb seat post. This seat post gives you 125mm of controlled-speed seat height adjustment with an hydraulically actuated handlebar-mounted remote. Trek even sealed it off with a custom sealing system, ensuring quality even in bad weather.

There's a reason why Trek is one of the number one brands in the country. To see all of those reasons, you need to test ride a bike like the 2013 Trek Remedy 9.9.

Bumstead's Bicycles in Ontario has all the bikes you want and need. You should come by to check out all the awesome bike and accessories we have to offer. We are located at 1038 W. 4th St. You can also reach us by phone at 909-984-9067.

Women Love the 2013 Trek Lexa SL, and It's Easy to See Why!

Men aren't the only ones looking for a fast, light, confidence inspiring road bike. Women do too, and they find it in the 2013 Trek Lexa SL!

100 Series Aluminum is used on the Lexa, which is Trek's high performance aluminum. It uses complex tube shapes for a great combination of strength to weight. Trek also decided to use the H3 WSD fit on the bike, which offers a slightly higher head tube as well as a but shorter top tube to allow you to ride more comfortably, for longer. Comfort is one of Trek's top priorities, and it shows. They use Women's Specific design in their road and mountain bike construction. Trek knows that a great-fitting bike means more joy from the ride, great comfort, excellent power and stability, as well as awesome control.

It goes without saying how excellent it is to have Shimano STI shifters and brakes at the same location on the handlebars. This gives you complete control over the gears while giving you the ability to brake should you need to. Shimano Tiagra derailleurs complete the package, providing compatibility and a sure, swift shift every time.

Trek cares about comfort, so they have used Bontrager components in that field. An Affinity 1 saddle, 20mm offset Race seatpost, and Gel Cork tape take away a lot of the discomfort associated with longer rides. Your sit bone and hands are gently cradled by these comfy yet firm Bontrager components.

Don't think you're getting the whole picture by reading this review. You really should come to Bumstead's Bicycles to see this bike for yourself. We are located on 1038 West 4th Street in Ontario. You can also easily reach us by phone at 909-984-9067, or check out our website for a full product catalogue. www.bumsteadsbikes.com

2013 Trek Madone 2 Series is Even More Incredible than Last Year!

For years, the Trek Madone was a leading carbon fiber road racer used by local riders as well as Lance Armstrong.  The light weight and advanced design of the Madone carbon frame gave cyclists a big performance edge over others not as lucky to be riding this bike.  Trek has recognized the need to bring the design of the Madone down to a lower price point so for 2013, Trek is introducing two Madone models in aluminum.  The Madone 2.1 and 2.3 deliver a lot of the benefits of their carbon big brother but at half the price.

Equipped with a carbon fork and seat post and Shimano 105 10 speed components the Madone 2 series is perfect for racing, triathlons, weekend group rides or that early Saturday morning ride by yourself where you just want to see where the road takes you.

We are located at 1038 W. 4th Street (4th and Mountain) in Ontario and our phone number is (909) 984-9067.  If you have questions about the 2013 Madone, give us a call or drop by the shop and check them out in person.

Looking to get into Mountain Biking? Try the 2013 Trek Mamba 29er! Awesome entry level mountain bike for 2013.

Trek pulls no punches with their 2013 Mamba 29er. If you’re just starting out in mountain biking, the Mamba 29er should be at the top of your prospective new bike list. 29er means that it has 29 inch wheels which makes the tracking incredible. These larger tires easily pass over rocks and ruts on those challenging mountain trails. The rims are double walled and eyeleted with a stainless steel washer, which makes them extremely strong and reliable.

Like most of their 2013 bikes, the Mamba features G2 geometry, giving you good handling at both high and low speeds. Trek has changed the front head tube and the shock crown angle so that it steers just as quick as a 26” wheel bike.
