Bontrager Helmets Starvos, Solstice and Rally Now Have MIPS Technology

MIPS - Multi-Directional Impact Protection System - Sets a New Standard in Helmet Safety

Developed by brain surgeons and scientists, MIPS helps reduce rotational forces on the brain caused by angled impacts to the head.

MIPS is a patented technology that adds a low friction layer between the head and the helmet, developed to add protection by reducing the rotational violence to the brain on angled impacts.

In a crash, the MIPS system allows the helmet to rotate independently around the head, redirecting impact energy, which can provide more protection in certain impacts.

Bontrager proudly offers MIPS versions of its Rally, Starvos, and other popular helmets in the endeavor to deliver great performing, exceptionally engineered equipment. And just like every

Bontrager helmet, should a MIPS helmet be impacted within the first year of ownership Bontrager will replace it at no charge.

Helmets with MIPS technology include:

Bontrager Rally MTB Helmet

Bontrager Solstice Helmet

Men's and Womens Starvos Road Helmet

Come to Bumstead's Bicycles to see the helmets we have in sock.

Second of Two NEW Trek Cyclocross Bikes - 2017 Trek Crockett

World Cup Champion - Trek Crockett NOW Available

Ride Crockett and win. Every feature of this aluminum Cyclocross bike is built to race and hard wired for victory: race geometry, brake options, Cross-proven components.

Trek’s cyclocross platform is the Crockett with a frame built to the same race geometry as the Boone from what Trek calls its 200 Series Alpha Aluminium. The Crockett 5 Disc (£1,350) has a mainly Shimano 105 groupset with an FSA Energy Cross chainset and Hayes CX 5 mechanical disc brakes.

Pure race geometry
We’ve redefined our race geometry with expert input from our pro riders, for a powerful, fast, smooth ride that dominates on any terrain.

IsoSpeed fork

Generous ride-tuned sweep and shape increase compliance without sacrificing lateral stiffness. You get more comfort, total control.
Cross-specific solutions
Success is in the Cross-built details: cleaner cable routing with full housing option, a top tube shaped for shouldering, and massive tire clearance.
Caliper or disc brakes
All the stopping power you need, just the way you want it: smooth all-weather discs, or lightweight calipers. The existing top-level Crockett 9 Disc (£2,200) is equipped with a real mix of components including Shimano RS685 hydraulic disc brakes and Bontrager Affinity Comp Tubeless Ready wheels.

Cyclocross Superbike - 2016 Trek Boone is One of Two New CX Bikes!

Trek Adds Disc Brakes To More Models In The Boone Line for 2016

Just before the World Championships, Trek released two new cyclocross models. The 2016 Boone and 2016 Crockett.

Boone is Trek's fastest, smoothest, lightest Cross bike ever, with competition-crushing race geometry and exclusive course-smoothing IsoSpeed technology. While the Boone’s IsoSpeed decoupler is inspired by that originally designed for the Domane, Trek re-engineered it for the Boone, moving its location in line with the seat tube, rather than in front of the seat tube as it is on the Domane, to make the top tube taller and make shouldering the bike easier and more comfortable.

Cyclo-cross riders are still somewhat split between mechanical and disc brakes, but favor is beginning to fall towards discs and that’s reflected in Trek’s new range – with the Crockett exclusively available in disc builds and only one cantilever-equipped machine in the Boone range, though both will be available as a frame only in disc and cantilever versions.

The 2016 Trek Boone comes in 6 models - from the entry level Boone 5 Disc, all the way up to the 2016 Boone 9 Disc. The Boone 7 and Boone Race Shop Limited come with the option of standard mechanical brakes or disc.

The Boone and Crockett disc frames use a thru-axle at the front as Trek say this allows for “more precise steering and confident braking while reducing weight and eliminating flex.”

Mud, sweat, tears, triumph. You'll charge through it all with bigger speed, stronger lines, and more confidence than ever before. Boone is the ultimate Cyclocross superbike.

27.5 or 29er - Which Is Better And Why?

One of the biggest controversies in mountain biking today is "Do I ride 27.5"(650b) or 29er?"

Lloyd got a few rides on his brand new Fuel EX 8 27.5, and in this video he tells you all about his thoughts and experience, as well as some of the science of which wheel size is best.

27.5" - Very fast, nimble, accelerates quickly and brakes efficiently

29" - Rolls over rocky, rutted terrain better. Better traction on technical climbs

Each of the wheel sizes has value, it really depends on the terrain and your technical ability as to which is the right bike for you.

Simpler, Lighter, and More Durable SRAM Rival 1 Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Brand New 1x11 SRAM Rival 1 Groupset Revealed

SRAM first ditched the front derailleur and offered a dedicated 1x11 single ring and wide-range cassette drivetrain to mountain bikers a few years back, where it has been well received.

Initially available for the cyclocross market with Force CX1, it is now offered to road cyclists with Force 1, and as featured here, Rival 1, with a wider choice of chainring and cassette options.

SRAM reckons there are many applications where the new groupset will be well suited. It’s in the emerging gravel and adventure markets that this new groupset will most likely find its fans, but also fitness, commuting, touring and triathlon bikes too will find this 1x suitable.

The Rival 1 groupset features several key bits of technology. The X-Sync chainring has alternating wide and narrow teeth that provide a more secure engagement with the chain. The rear derailleur houses a clutch mechanism that controls chain slap, and works with the chainring to (hopefully) avoid the chain dropping, handy when tackling gravel paths. The technology has been proven in the mountain bike world, so there’s no reason to suspect it won’t provide similarly impressive results on the road.

SRAM is offering a wide range of chainring sizes, from 38 to 50 on Rival (up to 54 on Force). There's a choice of cassettes as well, up to and including the 11-36 that we’ve got on test here, which is compatible with a regular 11-speed freehub. There’s even a whopping 10-42t cassette, but that requires a special XD freehub body, so a new set of wheels is needed. With this cassette and an 46t chainring though, SRAM reckons it provides a slightly wider gear range than a 50/34 compact double with an 11-25 cassette.

2015 VeloNews Buyer's Guide: 2015 Trek Silque SLX

2015 Endurance Bike for Women that are Occasional Racers, Century Riders, and Serious Weekend Warriors

Endurance bikes are designed to be the comfortable cousin of traditional road bikes. The bike will still be light, efficient, and powerful, but with a little more emphasis on comfort. These bikes have a slightly relaxed geometry and frames designed to be smooth and light, instead of just light. For example, compared to traditional road bikes, the handlebars on endurance bikes are closer to the level of the seat height instead of below, allowing for a more upright position, and the wheelbase is a bit longer to create a more stable ride.

The Silque's new geometry is built around a taller head tube, shorter top tube, shorter chain stays and a racier fork than the Domane, yet they still share the IsoSpeed decoupler technology and all the comfort that brings. There is no doubt the Silque firmly treads the ground between and also overlaps both race machine and comfy endurance bike genres.

The frame is beautifully made from Trek's high end OCLV 6 Series carbon and comes ready prepped for electronic gears, with ports for cable routing and internal battery position in the seat mast, perfect should you wish to upgrade later. The high-tech carbon composition gives the Silque a very different ride feel from the Domane.

Check out our video on the Trek Silque SL

Roadcc.com's Verdict:

29, 27.5, 26 - Which is Best?

Trek has over 15 years of wheel size development experience, more than anyone else in the industry.

The current debate in the mountain bike industry is between the 29er and 27.5.
Which one is best?

As a pioneer in wheel sizes, Trek thought they would help simplify the conversation.

For cross country riding, where speed is the goal, bigger wheels are faster, having a lower rolling resistance and preserving momentum better than smaller wheels. This is why you see most XC pros on 29ers. So get on the biggest wheels that fit.

For smaller riders challenged to fit comfortably on a 29er, go to the next biggest wheel: 27.5".

For trail riding, it's all about choosing a wheelsize that will match your riding style. If you want a confidence inspiring ride and are more likely to roll over an obstacle than jump it. If you want a playful ride, go for the 27.5. It's smaller wheels are easier to loft in the air and allow you to rapidly change directions. So if you are more likely to jump over an obstacle than roll over it, go with 27.5.

Remember, wheelsize is just one variable in the overall bike package. Regardless of what wheelsize you choose Trek has the best overall bike package.

And when it comes to bikes, Bumstead's Bicycles has you covered.

2015 Trek 1.1 VIDEO REVIEW | Bumstead Bicycles

Lloyd from Bumstead's Bicycles brings you the 2015 model of Trek's 1.1 Road bike. Perfect for the rider who is just starting or just returning to the sport.

The hydroformed tubes of the 2015 Trek 1.1 allows for lighter weight yet retains great strength, especially for an aluminum frame.

Another great feature is the carbon fiber front fork. That allows the bike to have a more compliance, lending to the overall comfort of the ride.

The 2015 Trek 1.1 comes with a Shimano Claris Drivetrain, including front and rear derailleur, chain and cassette. Saris is an 8 speed system, so you have a total of 16 gears.

The second half of the drivetrain is the STI (Shimano Total Integration) Shifters and brake levers. These shifters allow you to keep your hands on the handlebars at all times, even when engaging the shifters or the brakes.

To sum it up, this bike is an amazing package of components all put on to a state of the art frame and fork. A great value, excellent performance at a very reasonable price. You can't go wrong if you choose this bike as your first road bike!
