One sage said: “It is easier to save money than it is to
make more.” That may or may not be the case for you, but if you follow the
steps below, I can pretty much guarantee you that you will save at least $250 a
month and maybe $500 or more. How many more hours would you have to work each
month to make that much? Keep in mind
that the changes below will not change your lifestyle.

So what will you do with the savings. Have you ever considered really moving up to a $2000 Trek road or mountain bike. There's a serious difference between riding a pro bike and the entry-level bikes under $1000. Faster, more comfortable, better performance at every level. So see how much you can save. Let us know in the comments how this worked for you.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Get rid
of recurring charges you don’t need anymore – Go through every bank
statement and every credit card statement. Look for recurring charges that
you have forgotten about from online resources, magazine drives, newspaper
subscriptions, and more. We’ll assume you find one of these at $10 a
month. You might find way more.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Call
your cable TV provider. Tell them you are considering going off grid or
switching to satellite. If you have satellite, call the provider and tell
them you are thinking of switching to cable. Watch the dance begin. You
are very likely to end up with at least $20 or more in savings. Now call
the competition with your new rate and see what they will do. You are
likely to end up with the same or better rate and some kind of promotional
money or free stuff for switching.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Go off
the grid on cable. Between Apple TV, Hulu, NetFlicks, RedBox, Amazon
Prime, and other TV offers, it is hard to justify any upgrades to basic
service on cable or satellite. The savings for getting off of cable could
easily be $50 or more.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">On to
your cell phone, internet, and land line providers. This gets a bit more
complicated, but the cost of all of this is dropping fast. By changing
providers, bundling, unbundling, and just shopping, you are very likely to
end up saving another $30 a month and improving MBPS. Recently I tried to
end my land line service, but the bundle cost less with it that without.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Saving
on your utilities. The water company (at least in California) will be
happy to help you cut down your water use. Check with your supplier to
find out how to get free or reduced costs products to reduce use in
bathrooms and irrigation. Then check to see what the recommended water
needs are for your yard. The electric company will help you with lighting
and other ways to save on electricity. LED lights are fantastic and save a
huge amount of money. Switch appliances to natural gas to save even more.
Saving $25 or more per month for these changes should be a cinch.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Budget.
Keep a penny by penny ledger of all expenses for three months. There are
many online tools that can help with this process. Once you see where the
money is going, you will almost certainly be able to find ways to cut that
won't hurt even a little bit. We’ll put this down as $25.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Shop
your car insurance. We have 4 drivers on the policy, so your results may
vary. Don’t forget to check Costco or AAA. It is not unusual to save $100
or more. You should also review your other insurance policies annually to
make sure you have the coverage you need, and to see about savings on
rates. Life insurance is another very likely savings point.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Speaking
of Costco. The savings by purchasing your groceries and other items at
Costco are real and significant. Costco marks up all items by 15%. What they
buy for $10.00, you pay only $11.50. Most discount department stores
mark up 50% to $100. So you would pay $15.00 - $20.00. I know
you have to buy huge quantities. Find nooks all over the house for storing
commodities. Buy and extra freezer. A one-time small cost for huge
savings. Multiple online sources report Costco as cheaper than Walmart,
Sam’s, and Amazon Prime. Imagine the savings compared to your local chain
market. Potential savings of at least $25 per month per person.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Amazon
Prime. When it isn't a Costco item, why not buy on Amazon Prime?!? Pricey
toothpaste, supplements, household items and more are almost always
cheaper on Amazon than at Target or CVS. And there is no freight and no
auto expense. When you need more, you have a record of what you
bought. Savings of another $10 per person per month.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Get rid
of any high interest credit card. Use the savings from these other
suggestions to first pay off all credit cards with interest rates higher
than your mortgage interest rate. The only good use for a credit card is
to build credit. Pay them off every month. Or get an interest free credit
card and transfer all balances into the interest free card. If you owe
$10,000 on credit cards that charge interest and you put this on an 18
month no interest card, you’ll pay 3% for the transfer ($300) and save at
least $1800 if you pay the card off in the 18 months for a savings of $100
a month. Most families will save at least $25 per month. If you owe more
than that, try a credit union for a low interest loan. If you owe a lot
more, consider a HELOC.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Take
your lunch to work. Eating out a lunch is expensive and usually not great
for your waistline. A normal lunch your make at home will cost under
$2.50. Savings of $100 a month and maybe 10,000 calories.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman",serif; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">We
promised not to suggest changes to lifestyle, but if you want to add
another huge amount of savings, get rid of one expensive, useless or
worse, habit. Smoking, buying booze in bars, daily Starbucks, fast food,
gambling (including lotto.) This could be the biggest savings of
all. An expense of just $10 per day is $300 a month.

The Revolve Imp: Convenience Meets More Convenience. Folding Bike With Electric Assist Gets You From Point A to Point B Faster Than Ever Before!

Today we're going to look at an electric bike from a company called Revolve. They've been around for about seven years - a long time in the electric bike business. The bike we are reviewing is called the Imp. What's unique about the Imp over other bikes is that it is an electric folding bicycle. It is designed for people living in apartments, commuting by train, or traveling.

Let's first take a look at the folding aspect. It is really very simple. Just unlock it, pull the lever, and it folds up small. If you need it even smaller, you can fold the pedals and the handlebars in. No tools are required. The pedals fold in really simply and the handlebars just need to be unscrewed and taken apart. Just a couple simple steps and this bike is ready to be stored in the closet at home or work, taken with you in the car, or sit next to you on the train.

The battery pack is over the back wheel and comes with a typical wall charger for added convenience. It takes about four to five hours for a full charge and you can charge it with the battery disconnected or still mounted to the frame. The charger is relatively small, making it very easy to take the charger with you should you feel that you will need it on longer rides. The battery also powers a built-in headlight for night riding. The control panel up top on the handlebars shows you how far you've gone, how fast you're going, and how much charge you have left.

The motor is installed on the hub, making this a rear drive electric bike. In addition to a throttle on the right handlebar, the control panel also allows for five levels of pedal assist in case you do still want to exercise a little bit. The pedal assist is also great for effectively conquering even the largest hills. Simply put the pedal assist all the way up, pedal away, and be at the top of huge hills in no time without breaking a sweat. This bike tops out at 20 mph, allowing you to get most places in a very convenient amount of time. So instead of taking the car on your next errand, you can take your electric bike and away you go.Randy Kirkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07187149342560881341noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8977707008993430956.post-50889052854009953372017-10-01T11:49:00.004-07:002017-10-01T11:49:51.121-07:00Revolve Easy Rider II Electric Bike Review

High Performance Electric Bike Disguised as High Performance Scooter... For a Fraction of the Cost!

The model we will be looking at today is the Revolve Easy Rider II. At first glance, it looks much more like a moped than a classic bicycle. This bike is actually somewhat of a hybrid between the two, but technically we can refer to it as an electric scooter. What differentiates the Easy Rider from other scooters is the fact that it does still have pedals, making it legally classified as a bicycle. This means that, at least in California, it doesn't need to be registered, you don't need
a driver's license, and you don't have to have insurance. This is a huge plus in my opinion when comparing the bike to gas powered scooters.

What I like about this bike is a design that very much reminds me of mopeds and Vespa scooters. You can just get on it, put your feet up on the platform, and hit the throttle. It has very high performing front and rear brakes that will slow you down in a heartbeat. Its advantage over Vespas and other mopeds is that it is electric, so you stay much more ecologically friendly. It also has mirrors, lights, turn signals, and a horn; all the things you would expect when dealing with motorized transportation. There is a display in the middle of the handlebars that has a speedometer, odometer, and charge life, making your ride easy and informative.

The battery is hidden under the seat and is locked to prevent theft. You can unplug and remove the pack to charge or just simply lift the seat and plug it in to the wall. Just plug it in when you get home, and the next day you can go 25-35
miles on a single charge - which should take about four to five hours. It has a small little luggage rack on the back, as well as a back seat with pegs if you'd like to take a passenger with you.

This bike is great for getting back and forth to school, work, or running errands. You can lock the handlebars from being able to steer, but I would recommend also getting a good u-lock to lock up the rest of the bike. This scooter is only $1399 which is a bargain for what is basically a no hassle, ecologically friendly Vespa.
For basic transportation without added expenses, this is a great vehicle to have in the garage.Randy Kirkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07187149342560881341noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8977707008993430956.post-70553402866047232752017-10-01T11:49:00.003-07:002017-10-01T11:49:37.986-07:00Populo Lift Electric Bike ReviewAfter 100 years of selling bikes, we are now in the electric bicycle business. We feel their time has come. So I want to take a minute and show you the Lift from a company called Populo.

This bike has an all aluminum frame with what is called a "step-through frame" design, making it much easier to get on the bike. A lot of people at first think that this kind of frame means that it's a girls bike, but this is not the case anymore. These days, with all the different bikes out there, the step-through design has become unisex. And that's good news, because step through bikes are very convenient and comfortable. No longer will you have to swing your leg over the frame every time you want to get on the bike, and no longer will you be left incredibly uncomfortable every time you stop at a traffic light.

The motor on this style of electric bike is on the rear hub. The advantage here is that it's hidden in the wheel, and it is a very simple and reliable design. The battery pack on this bike is stored in a rack compartment over the back wheel. It can be charged inside the rack or be removed if you happen to live in an apartment or condo complex or just want to leave your bike in the garage and take the battery inside. The battery rack is aluminum, making it very durable, and it also comes with a bungee cord. This makes it really convenient for running small errands like a quick trip to the grocery store or carrying things like extra gear or clothes. One of the features I like about this bike over some of the other electrics is that it's just a good all around bicycle. It has a Shimano derailleur with seven gears. It's a lightweight frame that you could ride without the electric assist and it would be a perfectly good bicycle. It also has front and rear disc brakes from Tektro - a reputable brand name for disc brakes. As far as safety and night riding, it has reflective side walls on the wheels and a set of built in lights that are powered by the electric battery.

Now let's take a look at the electric components. As we know it is powered by a battery in the rear and a motor on the rear wheel. On the handlebars is a control panel. This control panel gives you tons of information like how far you've gone, how fast you're going, remaining charge on the battery and pedal assist. As you're pedaling, the motor will kick in and assist you depending on how much effort you want to put out or how much assist you need. The pedal assist has eight levels for a full range of usefulness. Going down a flat road you may only need the pedal assist at two or three to be going a comfortable 15 miles an hour, while cranking it up to eight going up a big hill will get you there in no time. There might be an instance where you just want to get to the store and back or it's hot out and you don't care about pedaling. For that, this bike does have a throttle on the left hand grip. Without pedaling, this bike's max speed is 20 mph, allowing you to get where you need to go quickly and efficiently.

It's a very high quality bike with good components and electronics. For a bike for the average person who wants to exercise with a little help or just wants to run to the store or work, grab your electric bike and go!Randy Kirkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07187149342560881341noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8977707008993430956.post-57488584721321082432017-09-02T09:00:00.000-07:002017-09-02T09:00:23.320-07:00Populo Sport Electric Bike REVIEW
A Double Butted 6061 Smooth Welds frame gives an incredibly clean look so you not only ride fast, but in style. Additionally, the frame can clear up to 38c tires if you want to opt for a smoother, cleaner ride. The frame also has a braze-on if you’d like to add a rear rack, turning this bike into the perfect commuter. The fork also has a dropout to add a fender for when the rain and mud hits.

Although you might think this is quite heavy at first glance, when you consider the added weight of both a battery and motor, it is relatively lightweight. This will allow you to zip around town, especially when you kick in the electric assist.

At $975, this 24 speed bike takes some of the load for you so that you can get to work or school - even if it's quite a distance away - quickly and without being gross or sweaty when you get there!

Because the Sport is designed as a single-speed similar to Populo’s popular Fixie Bike, the torque transfer is instantaneous and provides a smooth and seemless combination of human power and electric assistance in addition to eliminating the need for multi-speed gearing.

The simplicity of an electric bike that uses all standard single-speed parts makes the Populo Sport easy to maintain, repair and even upgrade.

Forgot to charge your phone or light? Well, no problem; both the Smart LED screen and the 36 volt Panasonic battery come equipped with USB charging ports to plug and play!

Three Simple and Fun Ab Workouts To Get You Chiseled

Plus a few nutrition tips!

Here are the exercises to get you started towards the fittest core you've ever had!

1. Overhead Lifts and Squats

You might think that this kind of exercise is only beneficial for the legs and shoulders but overhead lifts and squats are also great for the stomach muscles. Your core muscles have to work hard to stabilize your spine while you do overhead lifts.

This is quite an advanced move, so we recommend starting with supervision to ensure you get it right.

2. The Plank

This might be the least fun exercise, maybe even a bit boring, but side and front planks still work the core muscles super effectively. They also need no equipment, so you can do them anywhere, anytime.

3. Swiss Ball Punch Outs

Position yourself into the front plank on the Swiss Ball and roll your arms out as straight as you can before bringing them back into the plank position. Repeat until the burn is too much to bear.

And now - six nutrition tips to help you be as healthy as you can be!

1. Ensure the food on your plate is as colourful as possible – this means the food is nutrient dense.

2. Eat a varied diet – eating the same thing over and over is not what we’re designed to do. We’re designed to eat a varied diet, it’s good for the soul as well as the body to eat many different foods.

3. Traditional food is good – don’t be put off by hearty British fare, often it’s the way that the food is prepared that causes the problems. An English cooked breakfast (which I encourage all athletes and anyone to eat) is a great meal to start the day. It might sound crazy, but just think about what it actually is – meat, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms – a colourful meal full of protein, you just need to avoid frying it.

4. Don’t buy food that lasts longer than you – anything that bacteria doesn’t want to eat probably isn’t good for you. Any food which appears immortal should be avoided.

5. Have protein with every meal – we tend to eat a very carb dominant diet in the west, when really we need to go the ‘meat and two veg’ route as my gran would call it. You can get the carbs you need in vegetables without having to have a plate full of pasta or rice. I'm not saying you should never eat those foods, we all enjoy a good pasta dish, but moderation is key.

6. Have a day off – you need to give yourself a break from time to time, in the same way you would with your training regime. We don’t just eat food for fuel, it’s something to be enjoyed socially. Eating an ice-cream sundae or a burger and chips might not be good for the body, but they can be good for the soul on a treat day.

Developed by brain surgeons and scientists, MIPS helps reduce rotational forces on the brain caused by angled impacts to the head.

MIPS is a patented technology that adds a low friction layer between the head and the helmet, developed to add protection by reducing the rotational violence to the brain on angled impacts.

In a crash, the MIPS system allows the helmet to rotate independently around the head, redirecting impact energy, which can provide more protection in certain impacts.

Bontrager proudly offers MIPS versions of its Rally, Starvos, and other popular helmets in the endeavor to deliver great performing, exceptionally engineered equipment. And just like every

Ride Crockett and win. Every feature of this aluminum Cyclocross bike is built to race and hard wired for victory: race geometry, brake options, Cross-proven components.

Trek’s cyclocross platform is the Crockett with a frame built to the same race geometry as the Boone from what Trek calls its 200 Series Alpha Aluminium. The Crockett 5 Disc (£1,350) has a mainly Shimano 105 groupset with an FSA Energy Cross chainset and Hayes CX 5 mechanical disc brakes.

Pure race geometry
We’ve redefined our race geometry with expert input from our pro riders, for a powerful, fast, smooth ride that dominates on any terrain.

Generous ride-tuned sweep and shape increase compliance without sacrificing lateral stiffness. You get more comfort, total control.

Cross-specific solutions
Success is in the Cross-built details: cleaner cable routing with full housing option, a top tube shaped for shouldering, and massive tire clearance.

Article and Photos from Bikepretty.com

Whether or not you bike to work, there are a lot of great ways to sneak a little bike time into your routine. Riding a bike doesn’t mean that you’re required to squeeze into a skin tight racing suit or pull on an old pair of athletic shorts, but that’s easy to forget when we think about biking only for exercise rather than as a fun way to get from Point A to Point B.

Personally I love fashion and can spend hours putting together the perfect look. But I still hate having to change clothes throughout the day just because I find myself doing different activities. Ideally, I would wear just one outfit that takes me to the office, client meetings, happy hour, and my commute. While this style of dressing is a little extreme and might not be practical for everyone, this self-imposed constraint has meant that I’ve learned a lot about how to bike in style.

Now that I’ve picked up a few tips, it’s actually pretty easy to pull off. Once you start, you’ll realize how it is simpler to dress for your destination instead of your ride, especially if you are heading out to see friends or meet a special date.

ONE slow your roll

While biking is excellent exercise, it can also be a lazy form of fast walking. A bike has this magical way of shrinking a fifteen minute walk into a five minute ride. That said, if you’re on your way somewhere and don’t want to arrive dripping sweat, remember not to push yourself. Slow down and enjoy the sights and sounds of your neighborhood. You might not make every light, but that’s all right. You’ll reach your destination without overheating and be ready to make a great impression.

TWO stow your layers

This is the best piece of advice I have ever heard regarding temperature regulation on a bike: if you’re warm enough during the first ten minutes of your ride, then you’re overdressed. It’s really true! A spring evening might still be “jacket weather” but don’t bundle up just yet. Bring your outerwear with you, but ride in your shirtsleeves.

After moving your legs for a few moments, you’ll start to feel warmer and you might even work up a little sweat. Going without a jacket gives your body a chance to regulate its temperature and also lets your clothes breathe so that you don’t feel clammy. And if you’ve found that you just couldn’t help yourself from attacking those hills and end up sweating through your shirt, once you arrive, you can still pop on your jacket and your sweat stains are hidden away.

THREE let your bike carry the load

A lightweight road bike that is stripped down to the essentials is great for weekend group rides in the countryside. But if you’re using it to get around town, you’re probably going to want to carry a little bit more than a water bottle and a few sport gels (or in my case chocolate bars).

As much as possible, avoid carrying heavy stuff on your back. Loaded up messenger bags and backpacks trap sweat against your body, wrinkle your clothing, and generally strain your back. A detachable pannier on a rear rack, a frame bag, even a handlebar bag that stows a quart of milk--or a bottle of wine--will go far in helping you ride in comfort. And if you don’t feel good, you won’t look good!

FOUR never without wet wipes

I don’t have a lot of must-haves for bike rides (besides lights, a lock, and the bike itself) but there are so many occasions when a well-placed wet wipe has saved my bacon. If you’re feeling self-conscious, you can wipe your armpits for a quick refresh. Use them to wipe the grease from your hands if your chain pops off. A small pack of 20 or so can be stowed discreetly under your saddle.

HELPFUL HINT: If you get bike grease on your clothes, squirt a little undiluted dishwashing or hand soap onto the fabric. Don’t add water. Instead work the soap into a lather until the stain has almost disappeared. Then rinse and launder as usual.

FIVE you’re never fully dressed without a smile

Whether you’re enjoying a serene rails-to-trails ride or biking home at rush hour, riding is just a lot of fun. Any day with a bike ride is a good day. Remember how much fun you had as a kid biking around the neighborhood? Even though you’re all grown up, it’s still just as much fun. So don’t forget to enjoy it!
Trek Adds Disc Brakes To More Models In The Boone Line for 2016

Just before the World Championships, Trek released two new cyclocross models. The 2016 Boone and 2016 Crockett.

While the Boone’s IsoSpeed decoupler is inspired by that originally designed for the Domane, Trek re-engineered it for the Boone, moving its location in line with the seat tube, rather than in front of the seat tube as it is on the Domane, to make the top tube taller and make shouldering the bike easier and more comfortable.

Cyclo-cross riders are still somewhat split between mechanical and disc brakes, but favor is beginning to fall towards discs and that’s reflected in Trek’s new range – with the Crockett exclusively available in disc builds and only one cantilever-equipped machine in the Boone range, though both will be available as a frame only in disc and cantilever versions.

The 2016 Trek Boone comes in 6 models - from the entry level Boone 5 Disc, all the way up to the 2016 Boone 9 Disc. The Boone 7 and Boone Race Shop Limited come with the option of standard mechanical brakes or disc.

The Boone and Crockett disc frames use a thru-axle at the front as Trek say this allows for “more precise steering and confident braking while reducing weight and eliminating flex.”

Mud, sweat, tears, triumph. You'll charge through it all with bigger speed, stronger lines, and more confidence than ever before. Boone is the ultimate Cyclocross superbike.

When You Want To Improve, Where Do You Start?

The Basics.

Here are 7 tips to help you become a better cyclist.

1. Buy the right bike for you

Carbon fiber? Aluminum? Race geometry? Comfort oriented?

These are just a few of the many options that you must choose from when selecting a bike. Plus, bikes aren't just one-size-fits-all. It's important to know what you want from your cycling experience to choose the best bike for those needs. Are you commuting? Starting an exercise program? Do you want to try racing bicycles?

Here's a cool video we did if you are thinking about buying a mountain bike ---->

Come in to Bumstead's Bicycles today and we can help you find a bike that does exactly what you want it to do!

2. Ride intervals to get faster and fitter

Try an interval structure like this (from mensfitness.com):

Interval Workout 1: Build Endurance

Go the distance with this workout, which builds aerobic endurance with long intervals performed at well below lactate threshold (6–7 on a 1–10 intensity scale). Spin easily for 5–10 minutes to warm up, then shift into a larger gear (try big ring in front and middle of the cog set in the back) and pedal at a slow cadence (70–75 rpm). Go for two 15-minute intervals broken by seven minutes of easy spinning recovery. Cool down with 5–10 minutes of easy spinning.

Interval Workout 2: Increase Lactate Threshold

Quash lactic acid buildup with this workout, performed at or slightly below lactate threshold (roughly a 7–8 on a 1–10 intensity scale). Use a heartrate monitor or power meter to keep yourself honest, or just listen to your breath: Labored but deep and controlled breathing is perfect. Start with an easy 5- or 10-minute warmup spin, then do three eight-minute intervals separated by four minutes of recovery spinning. As your work capacity increases, you can increase the duration of the intervals to as much as 20 minutes with 10 minutes recovery. Cool down with 5-10 minutes of easy spinning.

3. Set some goals

Some people feel a little embarrassed about jotting down what they want to achieve, as it may seem a tad serious. But it’s extremely useful. It shows that you want to take your cycling seriously, you want to become fitter, and most importantly, you want to enjoy it more. Putting something in your diary makes it much more likely to happen and research even states that those who set goals are more likely to stick to what they set out to do.

Having a plan like this doesn’t mean you’re a geek — it’s there to help. And the quicker your goals and stepping stones are identified, the quicker you can go about them.

4. Wear the right clothes

You will feel so much more comfortable wearing the right clothes. And tight-fitting bibs and jerseys reduce drag!

5. Fuel properly

Sports nutrition doesn’t have to mean eating expensive supplements; bananas, cereal bars and jam sandwiches all contain lots of easily absorbed carbohydrates, are convenient to carry and easy to eat.

6. Work on Climbing

Climbing is a big aspect of riding. Intervals will help you be able to pace yourself when on an incline, but the best way to get better at climbing is to get out there and climb!

7. Ride in a group

Riding in a group teaches you road etiquette, and makes the whole process even more fun! Why are you still reading this? Go outside and ride your bike!!
Best Superbike of The Year

This bike boasts an astonishing amount of technology, including Trek’s IsoSpeed decoupler which allows the saddle to move a little more than usual to add comfort to the ride.

Most of its features, though, are aimed at aerodynamic efficiency. Trek claims that this is the fastest aero bike out there (of course it does!).

Frame tubes, fork legs and the seatmast are made to Kammtail profiles, as is the top section of the Madone XXX integrated bar/stem. The direct-mount centre-pull front brake is integrated into the fork with the top of the calliper hidden within the head tube. There's not enough space in there for the calliper to move when the fork is turned so Trek has developed what it calls 'Vector Wings' – small flaps that flip up to allow the movement.

The Madone feels quick and responsive as soon as you climb aboard and fire your legs into action, shooting up to speed quickly and maintaining that speed beautifully. Climbing feels great on this bike, and descending is a real buzz.

Overall, the Madone behaves superbly, the best feature being that its high level of comfort keeps you feeling fresher and up for the fight that much longer.

Anyone familiar with the Trek Madone will know there have always been a lot of 'em; it's practically a range in its own right. So far, the new Madone is only available as a 9 Series, but there are four models: the 9.2, the 9.5, the 9.9, and the Race Shop Limited - the differences being spec and the type of carbon used in the lay-up.

The 9 Series is available in a choice of two different geometries: H1 and H2. Both are race oriented, the H1 offering a position that's being just that bit more low and stretched than the H2.

Oh, and on top of all that you can have a Project One version, which gives you the option to custom spec your fit, component choice and your paint job.

The bike we tested was the Race Shop version with a Project One custom paint job, so the top of the tree.

This is a stunningly good bike that offers a fabulous mix of speed and comfort, and it’s the clear winner of our Superbike of the Year.

Why it wins

An incredible amount of clever technology produces a super-fast bike that’s also very comfortable

From another Road.cc Review:

"As cyclists we get used to having hyperbole thrown our way by bike brands releasing what are actually pretty ordinary bikes, but the Madone 9 Series backs up Trek's claims with a fabulous performance out on the road. This is a bike that's genuinely very different from the norm – and not just different for the sake of being different. The technology on display here contributes to a bike that's very fast and very comfortable.
